Gloria Estefan calls off Mexico trip to stay by her mom’s side - 2007-11-07
Gloria Estefan canceled a trip to Mexico in order to take care of her ailing mother. The songstress’ mom, Gloria Fajardo, is in an intensive care unit in a Miami, Florida hospital after underwent emergency surgery. A spokesperson for Gloria has revealed, "Gloria is looking after her day and night, staying with her... She stays hopeful through prayer; counting on God for her mom to be OK. "Gloria is completely right for wanting to stay close to her mom, which is why she had to postpone the trip to Mexico." Gloria is currently promoting her new album, 90 Millas, which debuted last month.

When the Latin singer discovered the Hollywood hunky was living near her Miami residence on hotspot Star Island, she recovered her shape by being starstruck. I almost lost 10 pounds in a day because Denzel was staying on our island and I was running and jogging, waiting for him to come out... I just missed him,” Gloria said.

Gloria Stefan will release a new Album in Spanish named '90 Millas'. This will be her first album in Spanish Language in 7 years. Emilio Estefan is the producer of the collection that will bring Gloria back to her Cuban roots. Some of the acclaimed and most powerful Latin artitst included in her upcoming work are: Carlos Santana, trumpet virtuoso Alfredo 'Chocolate' Armenteros, conga drum Sheila E, Johnny Pacheco, actor and musician Andy Garcia, and Cachao who is known as the creator of mambo. The album has traditional as well as modern rhythms and will hit retailers on September 18th.

Latin Pop songstress Gloria Estefan and U2 guitarist The Edge were awarded with the honorary Doctor of Music degrees at Boston's Berklee College of Music over the weekend, together with late Jazz pianist Andrew Hill, who was represented by his wife Joanne Robinson Hill. Estefan also shared an emotive speech to the graduating class, "Music is a healing force and we have the privilege of sharing it." "It's an awesome responsibility. It has to be something that says something from you. Whether you end up doing it for a business or just end up singing for your kids, teaching other people to do music, or doing therapy, go forward with a lot of belief, because its such an amazing way to live your life." |
Gloria Estefan makes her acting
debut in Music of The Heart as Isabel Vasquez, a savvy young
teacher who befriends Roberta when no one else seems to have the
time.
Th singer has long been a supporter of VH1's Save the Music
program, which works to keep music in public schools. The recent
Divas CD, Estefan's collaboration with Celine Dion, Shania Twain,
Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin, was recorded at a 1998 concert
that benefited the Save the Music program.
